While looking through flickr I come across a stunning abandoned staircase and it was in the UK. After a little bit of research I was pretty sure where it was, it was. So I took a gamble on a three hour drive with no sleep at three in the morning. As you can see here the gamble paid off.
The comapny can be traced all the way back to 1770 and gained the name Terry's Of York around 1830. The Terry name comes form a chemist who used his knowledge and skills to make new lines of confectionery.
In 1923 the family business spread fast and new premises were needed. Built in an Art Deco style the site was opened in 1926 and named Terry's Confectionery Works.
In the 1990's the company was taken over and the site was renamed "The Chocolate Works". More production was being dispersed around Europe leaving just products for the UK marketplace being produced here. Eventually the site closed in 2005 with a loss of 317 jobs.
It has been abandoned ever since. Some of the site has been demolished, I really can't see them knocking down the beautiful admin building you see below.
