Haus Der Offiziere Wünsdorf Main Building: Germany July 2014

Haus Der Offiziere is set in a forest less than an hour from Berlin.

Standing proud at the front of the building is a large statue of the Russian communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin. Clearly a later edition to the site and there are plenty more. Inside there are a number of murals dedicated to the Soviets and their power in Germany.

The building is pretty much empty but still has some standout features. The central staircase has Doric columns on every level with art-deco style railings. At the rear of each wing you will find beautiful curved staircases. Murals are scattered throughout the building including some embossed ones which I rather like. Then you have the war room. A small room full of soviet memorabilia. The final highlight was a bizarre light up image found at the end of a dark corridor.

There were two curved staircases at the rear of each wing.

There were a number of soviet inspired murals throughout the building. Sadly I missed a few.

So strangely I had visited the Soviet War Memorial at Treptower Park the day before. The statue is in tribute to Nikolai Masalov for the recue of a three year old German girl during the final stand in Berlin. Of course he is also standing on a broken swastika to symbolise the crush of the Nazi Regime.
