Krampnitz Kaserne is a large military site outside of Berlin. It has been left abandoned since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1992.
Built in 1937 the German army was based here until the end of the second world war. The day after the Germans left in April 1945 the Soviet army moved in! It has been left abandoned since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1992.
It is rumoured to of been used for various films, however I can not find any proof.
Fifty odd buildings and we want one!!
Well its mid afternoon and quite a nice sunny day. We find easy access into the site and once we are the other side its raining. Not a good start. Well this place is huge. We look on google maps. One building stands out as the admin block and its close. Well this could be easy.
We arrive to see all windows sealed by bricks with holes to let some light in as we wander round we find an open window a small climb, and we are in. Sadly its not the right building. Still has some nice features but its not what we came for.
A message home is needed. Luckily we recieve a swift reply with a location. Its only across the road. We stroll off down the slope, we realise its the main road and right in front of the security hut. We back up and start to take a longer route. The rain gets heavier as we go in and out of buildings trying to make our way round. Grabbing a few shots on the way hoping the rain will lighten off. At some point we get split up but its not long before we re-group and we are getting close.
Finally we arrive at our destination, well almost. Its not just a building we want its one specific room. We make our way inside hurrying along hoping to find our goal. We are met with a large steel door. For some reason they really don't want people in here. This must be it. What do we do? Is it alarmed? We decide to not even try and open it. There may be another way. We head up round, down and back all the way to the other side. We find another steel door, this time its open. We head up the stairs and finally we have reached our goal.
