A large abandoned industrial site spanning 36 acres, it is said to be the biggest industrial plot available in East Anglia. However the site closed in 2010 with a loss of 200 jobs and four years later the site is still left abandoned and unused.
The waterfront site was purchased by Boulton and Paul for £920,000. They opened a joinery and timber yard here in 1962.
At its peak in the mid 80's they employed around 400 people.
It had become the largest modern complex of its type in Europe and at its peak in the mid 80's they employed around 400 people.
In 1999 the site was purchased by the US timber company Jeld Wen Inc.
Ten years later the company announced the closure of the site due to competitive needs in the industry.
